Looking at Mini’s and came across this ad
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
“The car runs great but does have a check engine light on because I don’t get it out and drive it . Mini says you have to drive these cars in order for a check engine light not pop up.”
this means that your car is broken captai
n dipshit. It’s so obvious though

Neat...

Says the fix should be free. As in just driving the car, but also say “ I can fix at the asking price or you can make an offer and fix yourself.” Implying it will cost money to fix it.

Just like if you don’t exercise your dog, he gets fat and sick. Sounds legit.

But I’ve been around Minis long enough to know that if the check engine light is on and the car hasnt been driven enough, then something in the engine has definitely broken

I not defending the guy, but a frien d has a mini, and if he goes too long without driving, the battery drains, and he gets a CEL on startup. It also happens if he only drives short tips ( he use to work a mile from home).
![]() 12/04/2018 at 12:21 |
|
“ you let me drive it until the CEL goes off @ $10/mile discount off your price.”

I thought a CEL was the equilibrium state for a Mini, regardless of miles. :P

If the CEL turns off, then something is wrong

seems like an easy fix... buy and drive and check engine goes away.

Wasn’t there a TSB to remove the bulb though?

That’s analogous to “ I f there isn’t any oil under it than there isn’t in oil in it”

But you see – his logic holds. He never drives the car…if an engine isn’t being used can you tell me how it can break itself? Exactly! The check engine light is literally telling you to check to make sure the engine is still there, given that you haven’t used it in so long.

Ah, he simply got it backwards - honest mistake. It should read “It’s got a check engine light and something is wrong with it, so I don’t drive it much.”

It’s past the point where checking would solve anything then

CELs have been pretty rare in my 3 MINIs actually. My 2013 MCS is at almost 80k and hasn’t had one since I’ve owned it (20k, 2013)
But CEL in a 2007 that’s not driven enough are not good signs.
